I am a solicitor within Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team and I specialise in high value claims for people who have been seriously injured in accidents that happened outside of England and Wales. My cases can involve people who have had accidents whilst on holiday, driving abroad, winter sports/skiing, working abroad, gap year travelling/volunteering, or those who suffer medical negligence abroad.
Many of my cases involve people who have been seriously injured, including brain and spinal injuries or even fatal accidents that occur whilst abroad. A large part of my role requires me to analyse the full extent of a person’s injuries, physical and psychological, and ensure that they get the correct rehabilitation, through compensation, to assist with their recovery.
My work involves domestic as well as foreign laws and jurisdictions from all over the world. I often work with foreign lawyers and experts to achieve success for my clients.
I was inspired to become a personal injury lawyer because I wanted to help those who were unfortunate enough to be seriously injured. I wanted to help them obtain justice and make sure that they get the rehabilitation they require to recover.
I opted to specialise in international personal injury claims as it is a complex and ever evolving area of law. People often think they have no rights to claim if their accident happens outside of the UK, which is certainly not the case.
The most rewarding aspect of my role is working with my clients from the outset of their injuries, supporting them through their recovery and helping them secure the rehabilitation they require so that they can continue and move on with their lives. To assist someone from a point of pain and suffering and to achieve justice for them makes me feel worthwhile.
Irwin Mitchell is a forward thinking industry leader dedicated to exceeding expectations and achieving exceptional results for its clients. Our team of talented international personal injury lawyers are pioneers in this area of law and I thrive on working with and having the support of a team which is made up of hard working experts in their field.
In my spare time I cycle, rock climb and exercise with dynamic-resistance yoga. I also play the guitar and the saxophone. I enjoy watching football, cricket and motorbike racing. I also like to travel; the USA is my favourite place to visit and I have begun learning to speak Italian.
“Christopher suffered very serious and life-changing injuries in the accident and faces a very long road to recovery that will require physiotherapy and rehabilitation services.
“As well as his physical injuries that he suffered, the psychological trauma has remained with him and it is something he is struggling to come to terms with. The experience was also extremely traumatic for his wife, who arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and was understandably distraught when he was rushed to hospital in Brest.
“Thankfully, Christopher has now been discharged from hospital and is beginning his recovery. The insurers of the driver have admitted liability for the incident and the injuries Christopher suffered, and we are now working with them to reach a fair settlement that will enable Christopher to access the rehabilitation and physiotherapy he now needs, and to compensate him for the pain and suffering he has endured and the financial hardship caused by not being able to work.
“We hope we will be able to reach a fair settlement that will allow Christopher to access the help he needs and enable him to focus completely on his recovery and getting his life back on track.”
“Christopher suffered very serious injuries due to the accident and tragically lost his colleague, Mr Marshall, at the same time. As his physical injuries heal, with the help of his on-going rehabilitation, the psychological trauma he suffered will always remain with him and it is something he is struggling to come to terms with.
“We are pleased that we have been able to secure judgment for Christopher following a successful trial at the High Court. I hope that the settlement to which he is due will enable him to continue to rebuild his life. It has been disappointing for us and Christopher that the MIB has continually denied responsibility and substantially prolonged the legal proceedings.”
“Bryan suffered painful injuries to his upper right arm whilst on holiday and endured surgery in the Dominican Republic and subsequent treatment back in the UK.
“We are pleased that we have secured a settlement for him and that he can now move forward from this ordeal.
“Hotels should ensure that public areas, especially those designed for sporting activities, are safe for guests and also that all public areas are properly maintained and free from potential hazards. We hope that this case serves as a reminder to the industry that protecting guests from injury must be a top priority.”
“Ruth suffered horrendous injuries and has been left with a permanent damage to her shoulder; this trip was meant to be a relaxing trip to the capital city for the couple and, instead, she was confined to the apartment and unable to do any of the activities planned in London.
“Companies have a duty to people using their facilities to ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed to prevent such accidents from happening.
“We are pleased that Two West have accepted liability for the accident and now want to work with us to ensure that Mrs Turkenitz receives the compensation that she needs to help her cope with her injuries.”
