Jonathan Child



Jonathan acts for a range of clients from private individuals to major corporations, across a variety of sectors.

Jonathan specialises in handling large scale commercial disputes, such as breach of contract claims, professional negligence actions, mis-selling of financial products and shareholder disputes, often with an international element. He also has experience in relation to matters involving insolvent companies, and advising trustees around disputes resulting from insolvency proceedings. 

Jonathan has participated in several successful mediations.

In April 2015, Jonathan was seconded to the in-house legal team at Jones Lang LaSalle where he was responsible for handling a mixed workload of contentious and non-contentious commercial matters. 

Jonathan is a member of the London Solicitors Litigation Association.

Recent highlights:

  • Representing an Indian State Bank in litigation relating to two term loan facility agreements for US $55 million and US $30 million in relation to large offshore energy projects.
  • Representing an international commercial property development group under investigation by the FCA in relation to investments of over £250 million, and advising on civil claims that arose as part of the investigation.
  • Advising on a professional negligence claim against a set of solicitors in relation to breach of duties and negligence in respect of funding arrangements in an existing claim, resulting in the negotiation and settlement of the matter for £500,000 for the client.
  • Defending a high net worth family for a claim in relation to an investment agreement, and advising on counter-claims in relation to the same agreement for £500,000+.
  • Representation of an international airline in various contractual disputes and claims, including managing a dispute with an national baggage handling agency and obtaining a large judgment in favour of the airline at trial for £100,000+.
  • Representing a BVI Company and Cayman Island Fund in a contractual dispute in relation to an investment agreement and joint venture agreement for £3 million.
  • Advising on a £8.3 million breach of contract claim brought by a Hong Kong based life sciences provider against a British academic institution.
  • Acting for an independent financial advisor (IFA) in defence of a £1.25m breach of fiduciary claim, and assisting in the successful settlement of the claim. 
  • Defending and advising a corporate client in debt enforcement proceedings, which included mediation proceedings and oral examination in the High Court of a company director.
  • Acting for a high-net worth individual in a £900,000 breach of Consumer Credit Act claim.
  • Acting for a wealth management company in a dispute over a financial services agreement with an international finance company. 
  • Advising and acting for numerous consumers in breach of contract claims.
