Prior to becoming a solicitor, I was an NHS physiotherapist working with people who had sustained spinal cord and head injuries. I left physiotherapy to experience new challenges. I have not been disappointed!
I joined Irwin Mitchell as a trainee solicitor in 1990 and became a partner in 1995. I am passionate about providing a legal service to clients who have sustained life changing injuries. Every client is an individual and the legal service that we provide have clients' expectations and aspirations at its core.
I am an avid advocate for rehabilitation for life with independent and life options being the focus. I have been involved in a number of ground breaking cases including Sowden v Lodge, Havenhand v Geoffrey and Rowe v Doleman.
I also have an interest in medical ethics; specifically in relation to issues of consent and rights to refuse treatment.
"Proficient", and provides "straightforward, uncomplicated advice" - Legal 500, 2012
I wanted to advocate for people who had sustained life changing injuries, particularly at a time when they are usually least able to advocate for themselves. I wanted to be part of a team of lawyers dedicated to promoting the rights of an individual to receive reasonable recompense for the wrong doing of others.
Being part of a process that enables people regain the ability to make choices.
Every day is an adventure! I love being surrounded by people who are passionate about providing the best legal service and committed to engaging in innovative law.
I love eating, drinking and adventurous holidays.
“We have had huge success since launching our consulting office in Middlesbrough in 2015 and we have seen an increase in the number of clients we represent in the Teesside area as they seek to get their lives back on track following serious injuries, medical negligence, or as a result of occupational illnesses.
“We are committed to helping our clients and their families to access the right rehabilitation, medical care and support they need to make progress in their lives and the time has now come to grow and expand our business in Middlesbrough and the surrounding area.
“By moving to the Cleveland Business Centre we hope we will continue to be able to help the people of Middlesbrough, in a great location that is easily accessible for people with complex needs and disabilities across Teesside.”
“I’m very proud of the fantastic effort all the staff in our office have put into the charity events to raise funds for Wakefield Hospice, which does incredible work in our area.
“Through our work we have seen first-hand the impact their services can have on those who are suffering life-limiting conditions, as well as their loved ones, who rely on the help and support the hard-working staff at Wakefield Hospice.
“We are delighted to have been able to help the charity and hand over the donation of £31,500.”
“As a firm established in Yorkshire, we are very proud of our roots in the region and continually work to grow both our business and personal legal services expertise in our Leeds and Sheffield offices – with the ultimate aim of achieving the best possible outcome for our clients.
“These nominations are fantastic recognition of the great strides we have made in the last 12 months but we are already hard at work assessing how we can build on this even further.
“We are delighted to be shortlisted in these categories and are now hoping there will be further good news in October.”
We are delighted to welcome Simon Weston, Dr Kossen Ford and Tracey Ager to our seminar. Simon’s story is inspiring and he is able to offer advice through his experiences and help other victims to overcome their fears and on the road to recovery.
“We hope that through these seminars we are able to inspire, motivate and offer support to people who have suffered from severe burns or scarring. We see through our work that often their confidence and self esteem is severely damaged from the injuries and it is important that they know that there is professional help and support available to help them through difficult times.”
