James advises on a broad range of restructuring, insolvency and debt recovery matters. He regularly acts for insolvency practitioners, distressed corporates, directors, creditors, individuals and financiers in relation to both contentious and non-contentious work.

He has substantial expertise in advising insolvency practitioners, directors and purchasers on pre-packaged business and asset sales in administrations and sales by liquidators, in addition to providing advice to company directors where an insolvency process is anticipated or occurring.

James also has significant experience in the contentious aspects of both corporate and personal insolvency, as well as debt recovery matters. He regularly advises on claims under the insolvency legislation at a local, national and cross-border level.

Recent highlights:

  • Advising the Administrator on the administration of a multi-million pound turnover fire security business.
  • Advising the Administrators in respect of the pre-packaged sale in administration of the business and assets of a large frozen meat supplier.
  • Advising the Trustee in Bankruptcy in respect of a cross-border dispute relating to the bankrupt’s interests in overseas property.
  • Advising the management team on the purchase of a large concrete business which resulted in over 300 jobs being saved.
  • Advising the Trustee in Bankruptcy in respect of a multi-faceted bankruptcy annulment application.
  • Advising the Liquidator on substantial misfeasance and antecedent transaction claims brought against former directors of the company.
  • Advising an overseas creditor in respect of enforcement in the UK of a judgment obtained overseas which resulted in a substantial realisation of funds for the creditor.
