I have 27 years' experience of representing clients with serious injuries.
Our Serious Injury team has more experience and wins more high value claims settlements than any other in the country. My job is to ensure we continue to provide a truly outstanding service for our injured clients and their families across the UK. This means not only recovering maximum compensation for clients, but equally importantly, helping them and their families in practical ways to access rehabilitation and to improve their quality of life.
The NHS do a great job at saving lives - we work with them and with the private sector to provide financial support for clients who need therapy, housing, transport, care support and case management over the longer term. The team have twice been awarded the Client Care award by The Lawyer and in recent years have won the Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year Award on four occasions.
I work with insurers who want to help our clients but will fight fearlessly against those who stand between our clients and their legal rights to compensation. This has been my life's work and remains as big a challenge now as it has ever been.
On 4 March 2010, I was awarded 'Partner of the Year' at the inaugural Manchester Law Society Awards 2010.
Described as a "cool, calm, competent character." - Chambers & Partners 2014
Irwin Mitchell’s "first-class" Personal Injury department is led by the "renowned" Grahame Codd - Legal 500 2014
I was moved and inspired to practice in the field of personal injury and clinical negligence law by the opportunities to make a positive contribution to the lives of injured people.
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
Working for clients who have experienced the often devastating trauma of a head or brain injury has been my life's work. The opportunity I have to help clients is fulfilling and inspires me to teach others in the team; in building on my experience and by expanding the teams I find we can help more people to rebuild their lives after serious injury.
I love the tremendous energy generated in the business by so many hard-working and enthusiastic professional people who are committed to doing an outstanding job and going the extra mile for their clients.
I love sport and try hard to keep improving my tennis and to keep fit. I also enjoy cooking when I have time. I enjoy the outdoors, especially mountains and take my holidays in the French Alps whenever I get chance to have a few days away.
“The Prince’s Trust is an absolutely fantastic cause and we are delighted to be able to take part in our first ever Dragon Boat Race event to raise money for the organisation.
“Donations and fundraising are absolutely crucial to ensure the Prince’s Trust can continue the amazing work it does with young people and we hope we can reach our target of £1,000 and hopefully stay dry in the process.”
We have a close affiliation with the Manchester Jazz Festival. Anita Weightman, who heads up our Real Estate team in Manchester, has been a trustee of mjf for the past four years. We have been delighted to assist them on a pro-bono basis in relation to some of their key sponsorship and supply agreements, and also their relocation to new headquarters on Fountain Street.
“The mjf originals scheme is a great opportunity to highlight and support upcoming talent and we are delighted to be involved. The evening provided us with a great opportunity to get involved with a key event in the city’s cultural calendar whilst providing a networking opportunity for both our BLS and PLS divisions.
“I’m delighted that the first Irwin Mitchell mjf commission has been so well received and we are already looking forward to next year’s festival.”
