Edward Stone

I specialise in wealth, succession and tax planning for individuals and families from the UK and abroad and work alongside their other advisors and the institutions who work for them, including their trustees and family offices.

I have worked both onshore and offshore and also in both civil and common law jurisdictions and as a result much of my work has a multi-jurisdictional element. I have a particular focus on advising international families on cross-border estate and succession planning issues, including forced heirship and Sharia law, and the establishment of complex and high value structures such as private trust companies, foundations and family investment companies.

I also regularly advise settlors, beneficiaries, protectors and trustees on their fiduciary rights, obligations, duties and powers under trusts and other fiduciary structures.

I have regularly been ranked as a "Leading Lawyer" in the Citywealth Leaders List and have been on the panel of experts for the STEP Awards since 2008.

Ranked for private client, trusts and tax and described as “extremely knowledgeable” (2015) - Legal 500 2015

I have regularly published articles in the legal press (including STEP Journal, eprivateclient, Trusts & Trustees).

Furthermore I frequently speak at conferences (Transcontinental Trusts - Bermuda - 9/10th May 2016; Lexis Nexis Webinar: Tax Issues for High Net Worth Individuals – 15th February 2016; International Cross Border Estate Planning for Divorce – London – 27 January 2016).

The UK is very much leading the way in this drive for increased transparency, as although other EU countries are required to introduce central registers of corporate beneficial owners by 2017, few have gone as far as the UK in making them publicly accessible and have restricted access to competent authorities and “persons who can demonstrate a legitimate interest” to access the information.”
