Planning Expert Reacts To Transport Security’s Big Decision
Specialist planning experts at national law firm Irwin Mitchell has praised the decision to give the go-ahead to a road tunnel under Stonehenge that will ‘improve journey times and productivity and once built will be viewed as a solution that was both required and long overdue’.
Planning expert Carl Dyer, from Irwin Mitchell has nearly thirty-five years' experience in planning and development and has reacted to a ‘debate that hasn’t changed very much in nearly 30 years’.
Transport Security Chris Grayling said today that he’s taking a “big decision” to transform the A303 by committing to the building of a tunnel as part of a £2bn investment to improve traffic around the Stonehenge site.
The A303 is one of the main arteries to the south-west but has long been a well-known bottleneck for lorries and holidaymakers.
Although the proposal has been backed by its custodians, English Heritage and the National Trust, not everyone is happy with a number of historians attacking the idea.
A public consultation to get the views of drivers and residents will run until 5 March.
Specialist planning lawyer Carl Dyer feels that there has been plenty of time for talk over the years and action is now needed so work can start on a much needed and mutually beneficial tunnel.
