Irwin Mitchell Sponsored Two Legal Prizes At Thomas Rotherham College Awards
Law firm Irwin Mitchell cemented its support for Thomas Rotherham College as it sponsored two awards at the organisation’s annual ceremony celebrating the work of exceptional students.
On Wednesday, 4 January, the Thomas Rotherham College held their annual awards ceremony, which saw national law firm Irwin Mitchell sponsor two prizes. The awards were held at the College, located on Moorgate, in Rotherham.
Sinead Hayes, a former student of the College and specialist medical negligence solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, attended as a guest at the ceremony whilst Dr Richard Williams, principal at the College, presented Terrell Durden and William Laithwaite with their £50 prizes and certificates. The winners, who had been nominated by teachers and lecturers at the College, were awarded the prize for their dedication and hard work in their chosen subject of law.

Expert Opinion
“It’s been great coming back to my old college and seeing the enthusiasm the students hold for their studies. I thought the ceremony was extremely rewarding and I felt very honoured to have attended on behalf of Irwin Mitchell. It is great working with TRC, especially being able to support and reward those hardworking students who have clearly excelled in their studies.
“At Irwin Mitchell we pride ourselves on our commitment to working with local communities and supporting the students of TRC is something we are immensely proud of.
“Both Terrell and William are thoroughly deserving of this award. The dedication they have shown to their legal studies, and their tenacity to succeed, are both traits that will enable them to get the very best results possible.” Sinead Rollinson-Hayes - Associate Solicitor
Student Terrell, 18, who is now studying law at the University of Sheffield, said: “I am thrilled to win this award and I am thankful to Irwin Mitchell and my former college for giving it me. The experience has definitely made me more determined to pursue a career in law.”
Dr Williams, the Principal at Thomas Rotherham College, said: “I am delighted for Terrell and William, our deserved winners of the award, and extremely pleased with the continued sponsorship by such a prestigious law firm as Irwin Mitchell.”
Thomas Rotherham College and Irwin Mitchell enjoy a strong relationship, as the law firm also holds an annual competition within the College that has been running for three years.
The competition consists of Irwin Mitchell challenging the students to prepare a piece of work and then present it to a panel of judges, made up of lawyers and tutors. The winner of the competition has traditionally won a week-long work placement at the firm’s Sheffield office, with one previous winner, Ellie Taylor, going on to secure a permanent position with the firm.
