Holidaymaker Continues To Suffer Following Illness At Five-Star Resort
A holidaymaker who continues to suffer after his luxury honeymoon at the Sentido Palm Royale Hotel in Egypt last year was ruined by serious illness has instructed specialist lawyers to help him and his wife gain answers regarding the illness the newlyweds endured.
Anthony Maddison, 29, and his wife Charlotte, 34, from Doncaster, both developed serious gastric illness symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting just days into their week-long stay at the five-star resort in September 2016.
The problems have proved so severe that Anthony is still continuing to endure stomach cramps with an altered bowel habit more than six months on from the holiday.
Now the newlyweds have instructed specialist lawyers in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team to investigate the problems they suffered on the holiday which was booked through Thomas Cook Tour Operations Limited trading as Signature and look into whether more should have been done to protect them from the illness they suffered.
Amandeep Samra, the legal expert at Irwin Mitchell who is representing the couple, said:
Expert Opinion
“We are concerned by the first-hand account of what our clients faced during what was meant to be a very special holiday for them both.
“A case of this nature demonstrates just how serious gastric illness of this nature can be, with the severity of the problems meaning that it is still affecting Anthony many months after the initial onset of symptoms.
“With this in mind, we have already commenced our own investigations into their holiday and are keen to determine what can be done to ensure that they gain answers as to what caused the couple to fall ill.
“As part of our investigation we would be keen to hear from anyone else who was affected or witnessed the problems.” Amandeep Singh Samra - Associate Solicitor
Anthony and Charlotte arrived at the Sentido Palm Royale Hotel on September 20th last year, with the first symptoms of their illness emerging three days later.
Anthony said: “We were devastated when we both started to feel ill, especially when this was our honeymoon. Charlotte works for the NHS so we were able to self-medicate when the problems first emerged, but it just completely ruined the rest of our honeymoon break.
“Other holidaymakers we talked to had said they’d suffered similar issues too.
“No one goes on holiday and expects to become ill, particularly when you’re staying at a five-star resort where you would expect a certain high standard. However, we did notice instances where the room was not regularly cleaned, on occasions there were birds in the restaurants and the cutlery and glasses were dirty. The food was on occasions served lukewarm or left out for long periods during the sitting and we also saw on occasion’s food being added to existing food.
“To still be suffering with illness more than six months after my holiday really has added insult to injury. We are just so angry about what we’ve been through and want answers as to how this could have happened. It is simply unacceptable.”
