A group of lawyers from law firm, Irwin Mitchell, organised a trek around the peak district to raise funds for their charity of the year, Support Dogs.

The Big Walk on Saturday 17 September saw 116 adults, children and their dogs, hike around the picturesque village of Edale with the option of a 2km, 8km, 15km and 30km route.

The office raised a total of £1,722.50 for their sponsored charity of the year, Support Dogs, which is a national charity based in Sheffield dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with various medical conditions. They provide and support, as well as train specialist assistance dogs to achieve this.

Staff and clients from the charity also took part in the walk, with help from their support dogs.

The money raised from the walk will add to the target of £35,000 that the Sheffield office, through the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF), is hoping to achieve by the end of the year. This money will pay for specialist assistance training for Irwin Mitchell’s very own Support Dog, which will be named Mitchell.

The 2km and 8km "woof and wellies" walks were ideal for those with mobility problems and other wanting to take in the scenery.

The 15km and 30km ‘BIG walks’ were aimed at the more experienced and ambitious walkers. They shared the same route up until the 15km point, where participants then had the opportunity to finish the walk or carry on.

All participants were treated to pie and peas (kindly donated by Sainsbury's) at Edale village hall at the end of their trek.

Caroline Mitchell, serious injury solicitor at Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office, who was heavily involved in organising the walk, said:

Expert Opinion
“It was a fabulous day. What a privilege to raise funds for Support Dogs in such amazing surroundings. Thanks to all who took part - we really appreciate everyone's support.”

Danny Anderson, fundraising manager at Support Dogs, said: “We are thrilled that Irwin Mitchell were able to support us by organising such a brilliant event.

“The money raised equates to almost the total annual cost to our charity of providing ongoing care and training to one existing support dog partnership and so it really will have a direct positive impact of the life of someone affected by autism, epilepsy or physical disability.”
