School Register At Intake Primary School in Sheffield Has 166 Children Marked As Absent Sparking Concern Of Illness Outbreak
Expert public health lawyers at national law firm, Irwin Mitchell, have called for a prompt and thorough investigation into a suspected illness outbreak at a Sheffield school to prevent the further spread of illness.
The warning comes after 166 of the 407 registered pupils and three teachers at the school were reportedly taken sick at Intake Primary School today. Local press reports say the strain of the infection had not yet been confirmed, but that authorities had been informed.
Expert Opinion
“We have seen through our work that gastric illnesses can be particularly dangerous for young people and can have a long-term impact on their health.
“Due to the number of young people falling ill in this incident, it is clear that many people will be seeking answers as to how this has happened and it is vital that the parents of those affected understand what has caused their child’s illness.
“We would urge local authorities to carry out a prompt and thorough investigation into the suspected outbreak to give parents the answers that they need in order to make decisions about their child’s attendance at school.” Amandeep Dhillon - Partner
