An investigation and deep clean is underway to identify and eradicate the cause of an illness outbreak at the Bay Torbay Hotel in Torquay after 12 people fell ill after staying at the hotel over Easter.

Guests staying at the three-star hotel have reportedly suffered from sickness and diarrhoea and the hotel’s management has taken the decision to close the hotel over this weekend to allow a deep clean to take place.

Expert Public Health lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have welcomed the decision to close the hotel today for three days and called for an investigation into the cause of the latest outbreak and the rising number of norovirus cases in the local area.

Specialist Public Health lawyers at Irwin Mitchell, who also currently represent over 300 people affected by a norovirus outbreak at the Exeter Arms pub in Middlemoor, Exeter, have called for the investigation to be completed thoroughly and for answers to be provided to those affected by this outbreak.

Jatinder Paul, an Associate Solicitor and expert Public Health lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, who is part of the specialist team who have represented thousands of people affected by gastric illness in the UK and abroad, said:

Expert Opinion
It is concerning that a number of people have fallen ill after staying at the Bay Torbay Hotel.

“It is also concerning that local hospitals have reported a rise in the number of norovirus cases. It is vital that any issues of this nature are investigated fully and those affected are given the answers they deserve about why they fell ill.

“Through our work representing those who have suffered illnesses following visits to UK restaurants and hotels, we understand just how serious the consequences can be. We hope reassurances are provided that any measures required to try to prevent incidents like this in the future will be implemented immediately.
