Expert International Personal Injury Lawyers Investigating Potential Cryptosporidium Outbreak
A group of holidaymakers have instructed specialist international personal injury lawyers to investigate the cause of their illness after they stayed at a Tenerife hotel.
The holidaymakers all stayed at the Be Live hotel, otherwise known as the Holiday Village in Costa los Gigantes in Playa de la Arena, Tenerife Spain in October. The families involved have been affected by illness including symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, fever and stomach cramps with at least two children diagnosed with Cryptosporidium after medical treatment was sought on their return to the UK. One baby was so ill she was nearly put on a drip after visiting her local A&E department.
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite which causes severe gastric symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting and is often spread through contaminated water in swimming pools.
Despite some positive reviews online of the hotel, other holidaymakers have complained about a sewage smell on occasions around the pool and nearby toilets, cockroaches seen in and around the restaurant and that some of the food was served lukewarm. There have also been complaints online about the number of pool closures and gastric illness symptoms.

Expert Opinion
“Cryptosporidium can have serious health implications for those affected and in our work we have seen first-hand the long-term issues it can cause, from which some victims never recover.
“The reports that one of the victims is less than a year-old are deeply concerning and we would encourage anyone who has stayed at the Holiday Village Be Live Hotel and has since experienced gastric symptoms, to see their GP at the earliest available opportunity.
“We would like to speak to anyone who has stayed at the hotel and may be able to help our investigations.” Clare Pearson - Legal Executive & Associate
