‘World Of Work’ Celebrates Eighth Successful Year

Eight lawyers from the Leeds office of national firm, Irwin Mitchell, recently went back to the classroom as part of an initiative designed to inspire children and build long-term partnerships between schools and enterprise.

The ‘World of Work’ Day has been designed as part of Ahead Partnership’s flagship 'Make The Grade’ programme and was run as part of the Leeds Law Society’s Education Week.

Ahead Partnership, is a social enterprise that works with the public and private sectors to foster social and economic regeneration. The week of activity in local primary schools that it runs with Leeds Law Society is now in its 8th year.

This year, over 500 primary school pupils benefitted from aspiration building activities, with over 140 business volunteers taking their experience and expertise into eight schools.

The activities aim to raise the aspirations of young children, whilst introducing them to some basic principles of business. Schools can pick from different themes for the day, from literacy and communication to money and the world of work, with business volunteers helping the pupils.

Those that took part from Irwin Mitchell were corporate and commercial Partner, Joanne Bone, Natalie Sandpearl, a Solicitor in the restructuring & insolvency team, employment law Solicitor Rebecca Streets and real estate Associate, David Cowgill.

They were joined by Kerry Smith, a Solicitor in the corporate and commercial team, commercial litigation Solicitor, Stephen Murphy, Jenny Arrowsmith, an Associate in the employment department, and family law trainee, Sue Parkinson.

The schools that Irwin Mitchell visited were Five Lanes Primary School, Parklands Primary School, White Laith Primary School and Middleton St. Mary’s.
