Lawyers Instructed To Investigate Concerns Regarding Iberostar Laguna Azul
A holidaymaker has instructed specialist illness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate conditions at a Cuban hotel after he developed a serious gastric illness during a special two-week stay in June.
Adam Hedges, 24, from Caerleon in Gwent, stayed at the Iberostar Laguna Azul with his partner Lauren to celebrate the launch of his new company. However the stay at the Iberostar Hotel, which was booked through Thomas Cook, failed to meet his expectations.
He witnessed flies in the restaurant and birds pecking at food. Adam was also served undercooked meat that was blood red in the middle.
Adam fell ill with diarrhoea and vomiting around three days into his stay and needed medical treatment from the on-site doctor as his symptoms persisted.
Adam recalls: “The illness just left me feeling really weak. I managed to see the resort doctor who gave me hydration tablets and undertook tests, but the illness just took its toll on me and meant I couldn’t enjoy the rest of the holiday.”
As well as having an impact on the holiday, the illness has gone on to affect life at home with Adam having to take time off his role as a director of his new venture in order to try to recover from his illness.
Adam and Lauren have now instructed specialist lawyers in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team to investigate the cause of the illness Adam suffered during their stay at the hotel.
Jennifer Downing, a specialist travel illness lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, representing Adam and Lauren, said:
Expert Opinion
“The concerns raised by Adam and Lauren are worrying and we will now begin investigations into the cause of the illness, which ruined their holiday.
“We would welcome any feedback from holidaymakers who also stayed at the Iberostar Hotel who may be able to assist with our investigations and encourage them to come forward and provide us with their account of events.” Jennifer Downing - Solicitor
Adam said: “This was supposed to be a special break to celebrate my new company being registered, but now it will always be memorable for all of the wrong reasons.
“I’m still feeling the effects now and it has meant I’ve had to take time off work just when everything was beginning to kick off. It’s just been massively disappointing and frustrating and I feel I deserve answers about why I’ve suffered in this way.”
