Lawyers Reveal Growing Concerns As More Victims Come Forward
Specialist lawyers who represent victims of outbreaks in the UK and abroad have warned that there is a growing need for answers regarding suspected illness issues linked to The Anson Farm pub in Thornaby, after authorities confirmed that more people have come forward regarding the problems.
According to Public Health England, the number of people complaining of illness following visits to the pub has risen to 53, with reports suggesting the number of confirmed cases of salmonella linked to the site has increased to 20.
The organisation is continuing to work alongside environmental health experts at Stockton Council to investigate the illness problems linked to the pub, which is operated by Greene King’s Farmhouse Inn chain.
Initial reports suggested that the first reports of illness emerged in relation to customers who ate at the site on May 16th and 17th.
Following the fresh concerns, specialist public health lawyers at Irwin Mitchell who have represented many victims of salmonella poisoning both in the UK and across the world have urged authorities to work quickly and thoroughly to provide answers regarding the problems.
The law firm, which recently opened a consulting office in Middlesbrough, notably act for more than 200 people affected by the recent illness outbreak linked to the Toby Carvery’s Exeter Arms pub in Middlemoor in April.
Amandeep Dhillon, a Partner and expert in public health at Irwin Mitchell, who is acting for dozens of victims of illness (including Salmonella) at the Street Spice food festival in Newcastle in 2013. said:
Expert Opinion
“It is very worrying to see the problems linked to The Anson Farm escalate in the manner which they have, particularly now that cases of salmonella have been confirmed.
“Salmonella is a very serious illness and we have seen on many occasions how it can leave sufferers enduring not only short-term problems which cause significant disruption to their lives, but which can also lead to longer-term health issues from which, in some cases, they never fully recover. In some extreme cases we have acted for people who have tragically lost their lives due to the illness.
“With the numbers of those thought to be affected increasing, it is clear all of those affected and their loved ones will want to know how these issues emerged and – ultimately – what will be done to prevent the same problems happening again.” Amandeep Dhillon - Partner
