Sheffield Gallery Appoints Lawyers To Aid Capital Development Programme
Site Gallery, Sheffield’s leading contemporary art gallery, has appointed real estate and charity law specialists at Irwin Mitchell to help it as it takes the next step forward in its development.
The legal advisers based at the national law firm’s Sheffield office will provide support during the gallery’s capital development bid, based around plans for a substantial redevelopment of the gallery to extend its spaces and create more areas for exhibitions and teaching.
This will include a second stage application for Arts Council England funding and a pre-construction period.
Home to an array of exhibitions, commissions, events, talks and education projects, Site Gallery supports artists specialising in moving image, new media and performance, working in partnership with local, regional and international collaborators to nurture artistic talent and invest in artists at critical stages of their careers. Site Gallery’s recent alumni won the most prestigious awards in the art-world; The Turner Prize, the Venice Silver Lion and the Frieze Emdash Award.
Judith Harry, Executive Director of Site Gallery, based on Sheffield’s Brown Street, said: “This project will secure a brighter future for Site Gallery, and will greatly increase resource for artistic and audience focussed activity in Sheffield. The gallery was last refurbished 16 years ago, and this investment will allow us to greatly improve our audiences’ experience and make a more competitive offer to artists.”
Irwin Mitchell’s team which will advise Site Gallery consists of Construction partner Julie Morrissy, Real Estate experts Wendy Greenwood and Graham Walker, as well as Laurence Gavin, a Partner who specialises in advising organisations in regulated sectors including charities.
