Announcement Marks Third Partner Appointment In Birmingham Since The Start Of 2015
The Birmingham office of law firm Irwin Mitchell has announced that it has recruited leading Real Estate Partner, Ben Acheson, to its fast-growing Business Legal Services (BLS) team.
Specialising in all aspects of commercial property law with a focus on investment transactions and development projects for commercial and residential developers, Ben will move to Irwin Mitchell from Weightmans where he is also a Partner. Before joining Weightmans, he was at Macfarlanes for 11 years.
Ben’s appointment follows the announcement earlier this year that Irwin Mitchell has also recruited Restructuring & Insolvency Partner Stephen George from Squire Sanders and Litigation Partner Simon Ellis from DLA Piper.

Ben will join Irwin Mitchell’s UK-wide real estate division. The national team has over 80 lawyers including 20 Partners and 19 Associates and specialises in all areas of real estate including construction, tax, litigation and finance. The firm expects the Birmingham real estate team to make a number of further appointments over the coming months.
Irwin Mitchell’s Real Estate tax Partner, Alex Barnes and the firm’s National Head of Planning, Oliver Martin, are both based in the Birmingham office.
Last year Irwin Mitchell in Birmingham announced the arrival of Corporate & Commercial Partners, Nick Dawson and Sarah Riding, as well as senior Corporate Associate, Rob Laugharne.
As part of the firm’s strategic push to develop a first-class business legal services team, Irwin Mitchell appointed nine Partners in 2014, including National Head of Pensions Martin Jenkins.
Earlier in the year and as part of its UK-wide expansion plan, Irwin Mitchell opened two new offices and announced that it had secured a £60m rolling banking facility along with an additional £30m buffer in a joint deal with HSBC, Lloyds and Royal Bank of Scotland.
