New Career Development Programme For In-House Counsel
Irwin Mitchell, in collaboration with Winmark’s Chief Legal Officer Network, is delighted to announce the launch of a new career development programme for in-house counsel. This will include Irwin Mitchell's successful GC Lunch series and the creation of a network for in-house counsel named 'NextGen Counsel'.
The GC lunch programme was established by Irwin Mitchell in 2010 and provides an opportunity for GCs and other senior counsel to discuss and debate development themes of their choice as well as to network with peers. The June GC Lunch discussed the topic of ‘Personal development as a retention tool’, facilitated by Keith Krasny, former UK General Counsel at AOL and the Huffington Post UK.
Keith commented "When GCs are not planning to leave their roles anytime soon, their teams sometimes feel there is no real future for their own professional development at the company. Keeping them motivated, out of a professional rut and giving them the space and support to develop can often mean the difference between them staying or going."
The next Winmark/Irwin Mitchell GC lunch will take place on 30 September 2015 where the topic will be in-house vs private practice: where is the misalignment and how can we overcome this? This topic will draw insight from Winmark’s flagship research project ‘The Looking Glass’ and aims to:
• share trends relating to what in-house legal departments want from their law firms,
• investigate whether they are delivering against this, and
• what both groups can do to redress the balance.
The new network aimed at the next generation of General Counsel, 'NextGen Counsel', will launch in Autumn 2015. The network will be centred around career development and has been set up following demand for such a forum from CLO members, Irwin Mitchell’s clients and the wider in-house community.
Amit Alagh, Head of Winmark’s Chief Legal Officer Network, said:
“We are honoured to be partnering with Irwin Mitchell in delivering the GC Lunch Series and developing the NextGen Counsel Network. These projects offer CLO Network colleagues a marvellous chance to extract additional benefits from their membership, and we look forward to welcoming each of them to the coming events.”
Edward Persse, Corporate Partner at Irwin Mitchell, said:
“We are excited about this collaboration with the Winmark CLO Network. We share a common outlook centred around facilitating career development for in-house counsel. Our vision is to create a leading support network focused on career development at all levels for in-house counsel.”
