Specialist Lawyers At Irwin Mitchell Instructed To Investigate
An inquest is due to begin this week (2nd June) into the death of a teenager who died after taking an overdose of her father’s medication in Rhyl on 12 August 2011.
Laura Newlands, from Denbighshire in North Wales had expressed suicidal thoughts to a number of professionals including school counsellors, doctors and social workers. Social services had worked with the family for several years.
Laura had returned to Doncaster to live with her Aunt in May 2011 following an admission to hospital after she’d express suicidal thoughts. Social services had advised her family that a stay with her Aunt was for her own protection. In June she returned home to Rhyl with the knowledge of social services and was found dead after taking an overdose in her room in August.
A four-day inquest into her death will take place at Ruthin Coroner’s Court and Laura’s family and specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell representing them will be attending the hearing.
