Specialist Medical Negligence Lawyers At Irwin Mitchell Secure Settlement For The Family
An eight-year-old boy left disabled after suffering devastating life-changing injuries during his birth has received a care and rehabilitation package approved at the High Court.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sustained a significant brain injury after birth and went on to develop cerebral palsy, epilepsy and a visual impairment.
His parents instructed specialist medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the care he received during his mother’s labour at West Suffolk hospital run by the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. It was alleged that her baby should have been delivered earlier, which would have avoided his injuries.
Following a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice yesterday (10th December) a judge approved a £2.3 million settlement from the NHS Trust.
Expert Opinion
“It is a huge relief for my client and his family that the Trust has now agreed a settlement to cover his complex care needs.
“The extent and complexity of the medical problems faced by this young boy mean the funding which has been secured will help him access the specialist care, accommodation and equipment he needs to provide him with a better quality of life. The package includes a lump sum settlement plus annual payments which will continue for the rest of my client’s life.”
