Man Contracts Salmonella At Sharm El Sheikh Resort
Specialist travel lawyers have been instructed for a fourth consecutive year in relation to illness problems at the Sensatori Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, after being contacted for help by a man who has needed more than a month off from work as a result of the gastric symptoms he developed at the resort in June.
Jake Ankers, 24, from Manchester, required medical attention from the resort clinic after developing severe abdominal pains and diarrhoea towards the end of his stay at the Egyptian holiday resort with his girlfriend Bethany, with the symptoms being so severe that he endured a difficult flight home and also required a wheelchair to leave the plane.
The illness continued on his return home and, as well as needing significant time off from his job at a letting agents, he has visited his GP on several occasions for medical treatment after his stool sample results tested positive for Salmonella, which is a serious bacterial infection that can cause long term health problems.
Now, Jake has revealed his hopes for answers regarding the ordeal after instructing legal experts in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team to investigate the problems he suffered whilst on the holiday he booked through TUI UK Limited.
The specialist travel lawyers, who have successfully helped thousands of victims of illness outbreaks across the globe to gain answers and access vital financial support to aid their recovery, are already representing holidaymakers affected by illness problems during stays at the Sensatori Hotel in both 2013 and 2014. They have also successfully concluded claims for a family of four following their stay at the resort in 2012 for over £35,000.

Jake fell ill on the penultimate day of his holiday at the Sensatori Hotel, with abdominal pains being the first symptoms to emerge.
Jake said: “The pains first occurred when we went down for our evening meal. I went to bed early in the hope that this would help, but when I woke up the next morning the pains were stronger and I started to suffer from severe diarrhoea.
“I visited the on-site clinic for support and was put on an IV drip and given antibiotics, but the symptoms just persisted up until we left the hotel and the flight home was just awful. By the time we landed back in the UK, I needed a wheelchair to get off the plane as the pain was just so unbearable – I was in agony.”
Jake has now returned to his job as a business development manager at a letting agents following a long spell of absence.
He said: “The illness completely ruined what should have been a happy ending to a relaxing holiday and you would never think that such problems will happen to you. The symptoms have turned my life upside down and I’m hugely frustrated that I have had to have time off from work. I am a keen gym goer and work hard to keep fit. Since the holiday, I have lost over a stone in weight and the motivation and energy to continue my intense gym routine.
“All I want to know is how I came to fall ill and what can be done to stop others from facing the same problems that I have faced. I just want answers.”
