Legal Experts Demand Swift Answers From New Inquiry
Specialist abuse lawyers have urged the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to work quickly and thoroughly to provide answers regarding child abuse allegations linked to former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.
The IPCC confirmed yesterday that it has launched an inquiry into the handling of allegations linked to Heath, following concerns regarding whether Wiltshire Police followed up a claim made against him in the 1990s.
According to the organisation, a criminal prosecution was not pursued when a person threatened to expose that Sir Edward was involved in offences concerning children.
The allegations were referred to the IPCC by Wiltshire Police following allegations by a retired senior officer.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police also stated the force is now carrying out enquiries to identify if there are witnesses or victims who support the allegations.
Specialist abuse lawyers at Irwin Mitchell who represent victims of abuse and neglect from across the UK have welcomed the launch of the investigation and urged that swift answers can be provided regarding the new concerns.
