Special Anniversary Ale To Launch In September
A unique beer which has been developed by business lawyers in Yorkshire and Intrepid Brewing Company reached a significant milestone this week as the anniversary ale went into production.
The limited edition ale, which is called ‘Trade Mark IPA’, is the result of a collaboration between the Leeds office of Irwin Mitchell and the Hope Valley-based micro-brewery.
An initial thirty two casks of Trade Mark IPA, equivalent to more than 2,300 pints, will be produced over the next month and will be available to all the pubs that Intrepid supplies.
The September launch will coincide with the first anniversary of Intrepid’s beers debuting in pubs and also marks the successful resolution of a trade mark dispute between Intrepid and a large national brewer.
The partnership was the brainchild of Intrepid’s part-owner and head brewer, Ben McIntyre, and Leeds-based Irwin Mitchell partner, Alex Newman, who worked with Ben on the trade mark issue.
Alex Newman, together with Irwin Mitchell Restructuring and Insolvency Partner, Andrew Walker, Commercial Litigation Solicitor, Stephen Murphy, and Business Development Manager Rob Cowling, spent a day working with experts at Intrepid to brew the beer.
Once the beer is ready, Irwin Mitchell will host a launch event on 17 September at The Anglers Rest in Bamford with a further launch event taking place at the Lamb & Flag in Leeds on 15 October. It will also be making the beer available at other events over the coming months with all proceeds going towards local charities the law firm supports.
Expert Opinion
“Since deciding on the ingredients and type of beer that we are making, we have been busy working on the branding which launches this week. Starting production of the beer is a major and exciting milestone and we can’t wait to taste it and share it with our clients and contacts next month.” Alex Newman - Partner
Ben McIntyre at Intrepid added: “When we set out at the start of this process, both Irwin Mitchell and Intrepid wanted this to be a true collaboration. This started with their involvement in deciding which type of beer to make and has continued with them helping out for a full day in the brewery. We are delighted with how things are progressing and we now can’t wait for the tasting as well as getting Trade Mark IPA into our pubs next month.”
The beer’s name, ‘Trade Mark IPA’, was chosen to help bring the value of strong IPR to the attention of the growing micro-brewery industry. The decision to produce an IPA was made following a beer theory and tasting session involving some of Irwin Mitchell’s other business clients and contacts.
