Local Disabled Children Took Part In Rehabilitation Sessions

Specialist medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office hosted a hydrotherapy event at Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College last week to raise awareness of the benefits of hydrotherapy for children with disabilities and provide a fun activity for both children and their parents/carers during the Easter holidays.

The day consisted of 20-minute sessions with qualified physiotherapist Georgina Thornton-Frankland, who was on hand to work with the children, as well as their parents and carers, to encourage physical exercise and movement.

One-on-one tutorials were available to attendees, who ranged from babies to teenagers.

Hydrotherapy involves a range of specially-designed exercises created to encourage movement and Margaret Ryan, Victoria Rowlands and Rebecca Haigh organised and attended the event.

For many people living with disabilities, hydrotherapy provides an opportunity to move their bodies in new ways and learn new exercises, which can be translated to their everyday lives and help with their rehabilitation.

Margaret Ryan, from the medical law team at Irwin Mitchell, said: “Hydrotherapy can play a vital role in the lives of children living with a disability it can provide both new experiences for them and the warmth and support of the water provides them with an opportunity to move their bodies in ways that they just can’t do in their everyday lives.

“In our work we understand just how important access to these kind of services can be and we were delighted to be able to arrange for these children to experience hydrotherapy in Halifax.

“It was absolutely fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves in the pool and learning new things.”
