Honeymoon In Turkey Ruined After Five Family Members Fall Ill Leaving Young Girl Hospitalised

International Personal Injury Lawyers Investigating Conditions at Bodrum Holiday Resort and Spa

A family are taking legal action after being left ‘devastated’ when their luxury Turkish honeymoon was ruined as five family members fell ill with horrendous gastric symptoms, including their 10-year-old daughter who was hospitalised due to dehydration.
Davina and Simon Nordemann travelled to the four-star Bodrum Holiday Resort and Spa on 28 July for what they hoped would be a relaxing two-week break with their six children and young grandson after getting married on 26 July but five members of their family fell ill with symptoms including diarrhoea, sickness, stomach cramps and nausea.
The distraught family has now instructed International Personal Injury experts at law firm Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of the illness they suffered at the hotel which was booked through their tour operator Thomas Cook. The law firm also represents holidaymakers who travelled to the resort in September 2012 although liability remains denied by the tour operator in those claims.
The family, from Mickleover in Derby, have told specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell about their concerns regarding the health and hygiene at the hotel which included instances of them seeing:
• Flies and birds in the restaurant near the buffet;
• Food which was left uncovered for long periods of time and new food being poured on top of existing food in the buffet stands;
• Bottles of water which had been half used being topped up with other water which other people had used.
The family has reported seeing dozens of other guests being sick at the resort and children being sick around the pool area, and that the vomit which wasn’t cleaned up promptly.
Each of the five who fell ill started suffering symptoms a few days after first eating at the hotel and the couple say it was terrifying when their daughter Kacey had to spend 24 hours in hospital attached to an intravenous drip to try and get vital fluids back into her body.
Mum Davina, a nurse, son Harry, 15, daughter Hannah Harth, eight, and Davina’s daughter Rebecca, 23, from a previous relationship, were the only family members not to fall ill.

Expert Opinion
This should have been the best time of their lives but sadly this couple’s honeymoon with their family was ruined due to Simon and four other family members falling ill and the family understandably want to know why this was the case.

“Gastric illness is not only unpleasant but can result in serious consequences, especially for young children and the family were extremely worried when Kacey had to go to hospital.

“We hope that Thomas Cook will work with us as we investigate the conditions at the Bodrum Holiday Resort and Spa. Nothing can turn back the clock and make up for the fact that the couple’s honeymoon was ruined, but we hope to gain some answers for the family to help them move forward from their ordeal.”
Jatinder Paul, Associate
Simon, 41, an engineer for Rolls Royce, added: “We decided we wanted to spend our honeymoon all together as a family and we were all really excited to have some quality time together in what we hoped would be luxurious surroundings.
“But we soon realised that the restaurant wasn’t what we had expected and we heard lots of other guests talking about falling ill. We were horrified when we saw children being sick by the pool and in the restaurant area but what made it worse was that none of the hotel staff seemed in a hurry to clear it up.
“Then, one by one, five of us began suffering with horrendous gastric symptoms. We were largely confined to our hotel rooms and the hotel doctor saw Kacey and said she needed hospital treatment as she was becoming so dehydrated. Davina rushed with her to a local hospital in Bodrum where she was kept in for 24 hours. It was really scary for them being in a foreign country and having to go to hospital and not what you expect to happen.
“The trip was completely ruined and we’re devastated as it wasn’t just any holiday – it was our honeymoon.
“What was meant to be a dream holiday turned into a total nightmare and now we will always have memories of our honeymoon for all the wrong reasons.”
