The real estate team within the Manchester office of law firm Irwin Mitchell capped off a hugely successful 12 months at last night’s North West Business Insider Property Awards.

The firm’s 15-lawyer strong team claimed the runners up spot in the ‘Property Law Firm of the Year’ category and by doing so, beat off competition from eight other shortlisted firms including Pinsent Masons, DLA Piper, Addleshaw Goddard, Shoosmiths and Weightmans.

Irwin Mitchell’s success on the night follows a year in which it advised on a range of landmark deals across the North West region, including Resolution Property’s £71.1m purchase of the Great Northern Warehouse on Deansgate.

The team also worked alongside ITV to complete the sale of the former ITV Granada headquarters on Quay Street to a joint venture between Allied London and Manchester City Council. Towards the end of 2013, Irwin Mitchell advised on the multi-million pound disposal of the 430,000 sq ft office complex, Exchange Quay, to US investors.

Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office also advised Maple Grove Developments in relation to the £30m Cathedral Quarter in Blackburn town centre – a regeneration project which includes offices, a hotel, restaurants, shops and a new bus interchange.

Anita Weightman, Partner and Head of Real Estate at Irwin Mitchell in Manchester, said:

Expert Opinion
This is a significant achievement for Irwin Mitchell, particularly when you consider that this is the first time the firm has entered these awards. To beat so many other established players in the North West commercial property market is superb and clearly demonstrates the hard work, strength and expertise within our team.

“We are on an exciting journey of growth and this represents a major milestone as we continue to establish Irwin Mitchell as the leading real estate law firm in the North West.”
