HSE Informed Regarding Fatal Accident At Work
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have been informed following the death of a construction worker at the Crossrail project in the Holborn area of Central London.
According to reports, work was suspended at the site on Fisher Street following the incident in the early hours of Friday 7 March and was expected to remain so as investigations continued into what happened.
In a statement, Crossrail stated that the worker was spraying concrete on excavated ground when a piece of concrete on the ceiling of the tunnel fell and struck him.
The statement added: “Safety is our number one priority and Crossrail sets the most stringent safety requirements in the industry. Despite this terrible incident, Crossrail’s accident rate is below the industry average.”
Crossrail added that the Metropolitan Police and the HSE remain on site.
