Asbestos Materials Identified Close To Commonwealth Games Village

Cement Identified On Riverside Walkway

30.06.2014

Asbestos cement has been found close to the multimillion pound Commonwealth Games Village in Glasgow, weeks before the major sporting event begins.

Daily Record reports that a cyclist spotted the material close to the site while using a riverside walkway along the Clyde, with experts subsequently confirming the cement contained the deadly material.

It is thought that the material may have been flytipped and experts have warned that the area should be sealed off from the public for work to continue to inspect the site.

Glasgow City Council has confirmed that a licensed contractor has been contacted to dispose of materials in the area, while the developers behind the athletes village confirmed that the materials had not originated from that site.
