23.07.2014

Solicitors at Irwin Mitchell are teaming up with leading charity, Leeds Irish Health & Homes, to offer free legal clinics for the city’s Irish community.

From Wednesday 13 August 2014, legal experts from the national law firm will be holding fortnightly legal advice clinics at the charity’s headquarters at Sheepscar Way, Leeds, from 2pm to 4pm.

Leeds Irish Health & Homes serves a vital function in providing quality advice and support services that meet the welfare and cultural needs of the Irish community in addition to the wider Leeds communities’ across the city.

In existence since 1996, the charity engages with the long established Irish community in the city; the latest census reports from the Office of National Statistics indicate that there are over 8,000 people who were born in Ireland and Northern Ireland currently residing in Leeds.

County Down native Ross McWilliams, a solicitor based at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office said: “Unfortunately there are limited opportunities for Leeds’ residents to access free legal advice and we are hoping that our fortnightly clinics, which will be managed by qualified legal staff, will help to some degree to fill the void.”

“Irwin Mitchell has always been committed to getting out and engaging with local communities and charities, ensuring that the public are fully aware of the support available to them.”

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Yorkshire’s leading Irish charity, Leeds Irish Health & Homes to offer the Irish community advice, support and information in a wide ranges of areas including personal injury, medical negligence, family law, employment law, probate/wills and business services.”

Ant Hanlon, Chief Executive of Leeds Irish Health & Homes, added: “In our experience, many of the people using our services, especially older Irish people find legal documents and the accessing of legal advice a minefield, not knowing who to turn to or where to go. We are delighted that this collaboration with Irwin Mitchell professionals to provide initial access and advice on a range of legal issues will provide the right kind of reassurance and guidance for them to get the advice they need, in addition to adding extra value to our existing support and advice services.”
