Pleural Mesothelioma Treatment Trial Launched

Scientists Assessing New Approach To Tackling Asbestos-Related Cancer

Medical experts have launched a new trial related to a treatment designed to tackle the asbestos-related cancer pleural mesothelioma, according to reports.

The Herald reports that eight trial sites are being established in the UK to consider how cancer stem cells can be targeted within those diagnosed with the terminal illness, which is caused by exposure to asbestos.

The studies being undertaken on these shores are part of a wider piece of research involving eleven countries.

Although asbestos exposure has been historically linked to work in industrial environments, there are a growing number of people coming into contact with the deadly material in public buildings including hospitals, schools and council sites.
