Irwin Mitchell Medical Negligence Lawyers Secure Lifetime Care Package
Lawyers acting on behalf of a 10-year-old boy who suffered kidney failure after he was born with a condition that was negligently managed by medical staff at a private London hospital have today secured him a seven-figure lifetime care package.Lucas Tuppeny was born on January 2004 with a congenital birth defect affecting his bowel and he required a colostomy. Due to a series of errors by medical staff, he suffered renal failure and needed dialysis from the age of six-months-old. He also had a kidney transplant in October 2005.
His parents, Therese and Brock instructed specialist medical negligence lawyers to help secure the funds needed to help with his care as his condition will affect him for the rest of his life and he will need another kidney transplant in future. Already since July 2004 he has had 28 procedures with a total of 149 days in hospital.
Following a hearing at the High Court in London today (1st October), a Judge has approved a seven-figure settlement to cover his medical and care costs and anticipated future loss of earnings.
Expert Opinion
It is a huge relief for Lucas’ family that the Hospital and medical staff who cared for him have now agreed an adequate and fair settlement to cover his care needs both now and in the future.
“Lucas has suffered a catalogue of medical issues throughout his childhood and will face numerous problems in his future as his condition deteriorates.
“We are pleased that we secured this settlement for Lucas and his family, they now have the financial security and reassurance that the costs for his future treatment will be met. We hope that lessons are learnt by the Hospital and their staff so that patient safety in this situation can be improved and each and every patient receives the best quality of care at all times.”
