Specialist Lawyers Investigate Steel Worker’s Noise Induced Hearing Loss
A Birmingham man who developed noise induced hearing loss after working at a steel firm is appealing for former colleagues to come forward with information on the working conditions.
Former order picker and packer Masoom Ali has been diagnosed with noise induced hearing loss and mild tinnitus which impacts his day-to-day life. He believes he was exposed to excessive noise with no protective equipment when he worked for Grayson Automotive Services Ltd in Tyseley from 1994 to 1999.
The 41-year-old has instructed specialist industrial deafness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell in a battle for justice and to help him gain access to the specialist hearing aids he will need in future as his condition worsens.
He is backing the firm’s calls for his former colleagues to come forward as they may have vital information about the working conditions at his former employers which could help conclude his case.
Masoom, who lives at Hall Green, in Birmingham, said: "My hearing is much worse than it ever was before working at Grayson Automative Services and is having an effect on my daily life.
“I now have to have the TV and radio turned up louder than normal, I often struggle with conversations on the telephone which is very frustrating and have difficulty hearing if there is a bit of background noise or when in a large group of people.
“To be diagnosed with these conditions at such a young age is very difficult to come to terms with as I know things are only going to get worse. I just hope my former colleagues come forward as they may have vital information about noise levels to help my legal team.
Sarah Tagg, from the industrial illness deafness team at Irwin Mitchell, added: "It is possible that the noise emitted from the heavy machinery present in the steel works has led to Masoom’s hearing loss and tinnitus.
“These conditions can be very debilitating and seriously impact sufferers day-to-day life.
“We are looking to speak with any former Grayson Automative Services workers who were employed between 1994 and 1999 that may be able to offer information on the working conditions to help us conclude Masoom’s case.”
Anyone who thinks they may be able to help is asked to contact Sarah Tagg at Irwin Mitchell Solicitors on 0370 1500 100 or sarah.tagg@irwinmitchell.com.
