Specialist Illness Lawyers Call For Source To Be Identified As Soon As Possible
Public Health England is working with Corby Council to investigate two cases of Legionnaires disease reportedly linked with the pool and spa facilities at Corby’s Holiday Inn.The pool has now been closed to the hotel’s residents and environmental health officers are working with the hotel’s management to ensure steps are taken to resolve the issues before the pool and spa is allowed to re-open.
Specialist illness lawyers who have represented many victims of Legionnaires’ disease both in the UK and abroad have welcomed the swift investigation to identify the cause of the outbreak of the illness at the hotel.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist illness lawyers have vast experience in helping victims of outbreaks in the UK and abroad to gain justice and vital financial support following such problems. The experts notably act for victims affected by fatal Legionnaires’ disease outbreaks which occurred just months apart in Stoke-on-Trent and Edinburgh in 2012.
The Legionella bacterium is contracted by inhaling water droplets in the air containing the bacteria. This usually comes from artificial water sources used to maintain a temperatures in which the bacteria can multiply such as spa pools, faulty air-conditioning units and cooling towers.

Expert Opinion
We have represented many victims of Legionnaires’ disease outbreaks both in the UK and abroad and it is a very serious illness – which in some cases can be fatal.
“The first priority has to be to ensure that victims are able to access the help and support they need to aid their recovery, as the disease can have a long-term impact on people’s lives and is particularly dangerous for vulnerable people, such as the elderly.
“Legionnaires’ disease can spread quickly, so it is vital the source or sources of this outbreak are identified quickly and action is taken to ensure no one else contracts the disease.” Amandeep Dhillon - Partner
