New Initiative To Raise Awareness Of Illness

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has launched its new Acting On Campylobacter Together (ACT) campaign, in order to raise awareness of and increase efforts to combat the illness.

According to the organisation, up to a quarter of a million people could be affected this year by the foodborne illness, which is the most common type of food poisoning in the UK.

As a result, the body has called on the government, retailers, caterers, consumer organisations and food manufacturers to agree to a pledge which will demonstrate their commitment to working to reduce instances of the illness.

The FSA said: “The poultry supply industry needs to make some significant changes but producers, processors, caterers and retailers have all committed to their part in the fight against campylobacter.

“Consumers will be able to be the judges of any progress, or lack of progress, that they make.”
