Nurses Are Worried About Standards At Rosecroft Residential Home
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has been made aware of concerns relating to a care home in Workington, Cumbria.
A spokesperson for the regulator told the Times & Star that nurses employed by the Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust have raised certain issues about Rosecroft Residential Home on Westfield Drive.
The representative also confirmed that an inspection would take place imminently.
Nobody from the home was available for comment and it remains unclear at this stage exactly what the nurses are worried about.
Admissions have been suspended until the situation is resolved.
A spokesman from Cumbria County Council was quoted as saying that the authority is working closely with the CQC, NHS partners and managers at the home to put an improvement plan together.
"The safety and welfare of residents is always our top priority and we will work with the home and our partners to ensure it makes the changes that are required," he commented.
"Once we are satisfied the home is making the necessary changes, admissions will start again."
Meanwhile, the CQC said it would also maintain contact with numerous organisations while the inspection takes place, including Healthwatch Cumbria.
With a capacity of 51 residents, Rosecroft Residential Home is managed by Stilecroft and specialises in providing care for over-65s, particularly those with dementia or mental health conditions.
The site has received positive feedback from the CQC in the past. In fact, its most recent inspection took place on August 8th 2013 and the CQC representatives were happy with what they found.
They spoke to residents, who were very complimentary about the staff and the food on offer.
Inspectors also revealed that people's records - including important medical information - were in good order, while data relating to staff was kept secure too.
This followed on from another positive review in June 2012, when the CQC concluded that residents were treated very well.
Expert Opinion
It is encouraging that Rosecroft Residential Home have started to put a plan into place to address the concerns of the CQC.

“We continue to be contacted by devastated family members who have witnessed a loved one’s poor care within residential homes and action must be taken to improve standards across the country.

“The elderly and vulnerable who rely on care home services deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and there is no excuse for this not being met. We hope these issues can be thoroughly investigated to ensure residents are receiving the best standards of care possible.”
Lisa Jordan - Partner
