Police Have Encouraged Drivers To Stay Alert On The Roads
Motorists in East Yorkshire have been encouraged to remain focused on the region’s roads after two serious incidents in close succession.A motorcyclist was killed on the A166 near Wetwang on Sunday (July 20th) in a collision with a van, which happened just hours after a cyclist suffered serious head injuries in a crash on the A165 near Brandesburton.
Casualty reduction officer for Hull and the East Riding, PC Simon Carlisle, told the Hull Daily Mail that early indications appear to show both accidents occurred due to a lack of attention being given to driving and riding.
"Both cyclists and motorcyclists are vulnerable road users and need to have a heightened awareness of what is going on around them. Drivers also have a duty towards pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists,” he added.
The police have urged people using the roads to give driving or riding their full attention to ensure they stay safe and enjoy their journeys.

These shocking incidents indicate just how important it is for road users to remain focused and vigilant, as a loss of concentration for a split second can have disastrous consequences.

“Sadly, we continue to see so many people whose lives have been devastated as a consequence of road traffic collisions and have repeatedly called for road users to take greater care and be more vigilant of others, particularly vulnerable users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.

“We hope the police’s request for increased attentiveness on the roads of East Yorkshire is taken on board by drivers and cyclists alike to prevent further devastating incidents of this nature from happening in the future.” Cathryn Godfrey - Associate
