Other Youngsters And Staff Being Screened For Illness
Lawyers specialising in helping victims of illness outbreaks in the UK and abroad have revealed concerns regarding reports of a suspected outbreak of E. coli linked to Chrysalis Day Nursery in Northwich.
Staff and children who attend the site are being screened after it was confirmed that two youngsters have been hospitalised due to illness.
According to the BBC, a total of seven children and three family members have been affected by the illness.
The condition of the children being treated at Leighton Hospital in Cheshire, according to public health officers, is unknown at present following ‘complications’ .
Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell specialise in helping victims of illness outbreaks and, among many others, notably represent more than 40 victims of a salmonella outbreak at the Street Spice Food Festival in Newcastle in 2013.
They also act for victims of a major Legionnaires’ outbreak in Stoke-on-Trent in 2012, as well as a child who contracted E-coli after visiting a petting farm in East Yorkshire.
Expert Opinion
Very little known is so far known regarding this suspected outbreak, but it is worrying to hear that two children are now in hospital.
"It is vital that Public Health England and the relevant local authorities work quickly and thoroughly to determine the cause of outbreaks of this nature, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that staff, children and worried parents can be given reassurances regarding safety.
"Through our work on behalf of victims of illness outbreaks across the world as well as in the UK, including those affected by E. coli, we have seen the serious impact that such issues can have.
"E.coli is a serious bacterial infection which can often lead to long-term health problems, such as kidney failure, from which the victims never fully recover. The effect that E. coli can have on children in particular can be significant and should not be underestimated. It is vital that lessons are learned which should help to prevent future issues of this nature from emerging." Amandeep Dhillon - Partner
