Two Free Events Taking Place In Wolverhampton This Weekend
Specialist lawyers have lent their support to two free events this weekend, where members of the public can learn more about the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Irwin Mitchell is the official sponsor of the Institute of Medical Excellence (IME), which is holding two free training sessions at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, off Sedgley Street in Wolverhampton on March 1st and 2nd where adults and children can get training on the issue.
Established last year, IME provides crucial CPR training to a number of schools, colleges and Sikh Temples across the country. These have included temples located in Smethwick, Leicester, Northampton, Walsall, Wolverhampton and London.
The organisation comprises of members from the ethnic community who are of a medical background, including founder member Dr Jaswant Singh Sumal, a hospital specialist in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.
Dr Sumal commented: “This is a very important initiative and one that I am proud to be involved in. Studies from other countries have shown a direct correlation between increased survival amongst those groups who have received CPR training.
“With the fantastic support provided by Irwin Mitchell, we have been able to take this campaign across the country and deliver it to a diverse group of communities.”
Expert Opinion
We are very pleased to be the official sponsors for IME, who are providing an important, informative and practical guide to CPR within our communities.
"Currently survival after a cardiac arrest in the UK is very poor, ranging from 2-12 per cent, depending on where you live. In Birmingham, survival is approximately 10 per cent.
"A principal reason for this is a lack of training in the correct administration of CPR. This is particularly the case with ethnic community groups, where English is a second language, the young and the vulnerable.
"The campaign will continue to raise awareness, with the support of Irwin Mitchell, who has a long history of supporting the communities in which we work." Satinder Bains - Partner
All members of the public are welcome to the events, which will comprise of a training session beginning at 11.00am aimed specifically for children, followed by an adult training session at 2.00pm.
Adopting the resuscitation council guidelines, the training is delivered in Punjabi and English by qualified doctors, and is designed to be interactive, offering an opportunity for people to practice the correct manner in the administration of CPR with the use of mannequins, under the guidance of qualified medical professionals.
The training follows similar sessions at a number of schools across the country including Shireland Hall Primary, Alder Coppice Primary, North Birmingham College and Sutton College.
