Consumers Have Been Urged To Stop Using Affected Model Immediately

Russell Hobbs has issued a product recall for 15 different types of steam irons over fears that the products could cause injuries to consumers.

A number of people reported to BBC’s Watchdog programme that they had been injured when their Russell Hobbs irons burst into flames, causing burn injuries.

Viewers told the programme they were using the iron when they heard a loud noise, saw sparks, flames and smoke coming from the product while they were using it.

The irons affected by the recall are those with the codes: 15081, 18651, 18720, 18741, 18742, 18743, 19220, 19221, 19222, 19400, 19840, 20260, 20280, 20550-10, 20560-10.

Customers have been urged to stop using the devices immediately over the safety fears and the company said the problems experienced by customers related to the products flex.

The vice president of Russell Hobbs' parent company, Tim Wright, admitted the firm first knew about the problem 18 months ago, and apologised to all those who had been hurt.
