Ten People Are Reported To Have Contracted Salmonella

Public health officials at Eden District Council have launched an investigation into a suspected outbreak of Salmonella which is thought to be linked to the town of Penrith.

Ten people who visited the town over the weekend of 15 and 16 of November have confirmed Salmonella, while a further five people are suspected to be suffering with similar symptoms.

The organisation is now trying to establish the source of the outbreak and has advised anyone who bought food or drink in the town and who has symptoms of food poisoning, such as diarrhoea and sickness, to contact the local authority.

Dr Nicola Schinaia from Public Health England (PHE) said it has not been possible to pinpoint the source or sources of the outbreak, however, further investigations are now taking place.
