Legal Experts Inundated With Enquiries Following Problems
By Rob Dixon
Illness lawyers who have represented thousands affected by outbreaks of illness across the globe have revealed that enquiries from people who suffered illness after attending the Newcastle Street Spice food festival earlier this month are continuing to rise.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist illness team has been inundated with calls from those who attended the Newcastle Street Spice Festival to investigate the illness problems linked to the event. They confirm that new enquiries relating to the outbreak continue to rise on a daily basis.
Authorities investigating the outbreak have stated that more than 380 people have reported sickness following the festival at the city’s Centre for Life this month, with 14 samples testing positive for the bacterial infection, Salmonella.
Suki Chhokar, a Partner with vast expertise in illness claims at Irwin Mitchell, which has bases across the UK including Newcastle, said: “We have been inundated with calls from people affected by the illness problems and have now heard first-hand how the issues have affected and continue to affect victims.
“We would be keen to hear from anyone who may have suffered illness as a result of the food festival, as their information could prove vital in our own efforts to investigate the incident and gain justice for those who have been affected.
“As stated before, we remain hopeful that authorities in Newcastle will work both quickly and thoroughly to investigate these problems and ensure that the issues seen at this festival will not be repeated in the future.”
Among those affected by problems is Scott Russell from Westerhope, who, along with his wife and baby daughter, suffered gastric illness symptoms after attending the festival on March 2nd.
He said: “The past week or so has been very difficult for us and it has been incredibly distressing for my wife and I to see how our ten-month old baby has suffered due to the illness.
“Like so many people, we are desperate for answers over these problems and what can be done to stop this happening again.”
