Worker Airlifted To Hospital In Bath
By Rob Dixon
Wiltshire Police have revealed that investigations are underway after a man was injured when a crane reportedly struck a power cable in Trowbridge.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was airlifted to Royal United Hospital in Bath after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the incident yesterday morning (March 20th) at the town’s rugby club.
It is believe that the injured worker was not operating the crane but was stood close to it while guiding the movement of steel girders.
Work at the site has been halted and reports have suggested that the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
David Urpeth, national head of workplace injury at Irwin Mitchell, said that while little was yet known about the work accident, it would be vital that lessons are learned.
He outlined: “It will be vital for police and authorities to work quickly to determine what happened in this industrial accident and to provide more information regarding the circumstances surrounding the apparent electrocution.
“Through our work, we have seen the terrible impact that workplace accidents of this kind can have on those involved and the loved ones of the person involved will be demanding answers over what happened.
“Gathering as much detail as possible will be vital in not only getting a better understanding of what happened, but also taking steps which will ensure that the same problems do not emerge again.”
