Charity Hopes Firm’s Fundraising Efforts Inspire Other To Do Their Bit To Boost Hospice Care
Lawyers from the North East put their fundraising skills to the test in the past year to help raise thousands of pounds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Staff from Irwin Mitchell’s Newcastle office took part in various fundraising activities including a charity race night, dress down days, bake sales and Easter egg making competitions to raise money for Marie Curie, the office’s charity of the year for 2012/13.
The firm recently handed over a cheque for £4,500 to staff at Marie Curie’s Newcastle hospice in Elswick.
John Davis, regional managing partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Newcastle office, said: “Irwin Mitchell’s national charity of the year for 2012/13 has been Help the Hospices, so everyone at the Newcastle office was delighted to take part in a host of fun activities for our local Marie Curie hospice because it’s a charity we really believe in.
“Many of our clients, particularly those suffering from asbestos-related diseases, have been cared for by Marie Curie nurses and we see firsthand the difference their specialist care makes to people suffering from a terminal illness and their families, so we are really proud to have raised so much.”
The purpose-built Marie Curie hospice in Newcastle cares for people with life-limiting illnesses and provides emotional support for their families. The hospice’s 22 beds and a day service costs more than £3 million per year to run. The charity is running its annual Great Daffodil Appeal throughout March where fundraisers are encouraged to wear a daffodil pin to raise money for the charity.
Lisa Corfield, community fundraiser for Marie Curie’s Newcastle hospice, said: “Thanks to Irwin Mitchell we have been able to raise a fantastic amount of money for our hospice in the North East. Without the generosity of local firms we wouldn’t be able to continue to run the vital services we offer.
“I hope Irwin Mitchell’s efforts inspire other people, whether as part of a team of work colleagues, family or friends, to help us raise the essential funds we need.”
