Concerns Raised Over Treatment By London Practitioner

Dental negligence experts at Irwin Mitchell have been contacted for help in relation to treatment provided by dentist Dr Richard Etok, who was recently suspended for 18 months by the General Dental Council (GDC).

Dr Etok, who has worked at clinics including the Behind Your Smile surgery at Harley Street, London and also offered fixed-price orthodontic treatment via an offer on Groupon, was given an interim suspension order by the professional body in December last year.

The GDC has not released information regarding the reasons behind the decision.

However, Irwin Mitchell’s Medical Law and Patients’ Rights team, which has expertise in helping those affected by problems in dental care, is now investigating concerns raised regarding the dentist’s work.

Kim Andrews, a solicitor and expert in dental negligence at the national law firm, said: "We are very worried by both the gravity and scale of the concerns raised regarding the care of Dr Etok.

"In the course of our dental negligence work, we often see people who have already paid out significant sums for their treatment facing an even bigger bill for further dental work to rectify the problems that they have been left with. 

"We would urge people to ensure that there is a clear plan in place at the start of any dental treatment and that the risks and costs involved are fully discussed with them at the outset."
