Calls For Review Of Safety On Route Welcomed By Legal Experts

Specialist lawyers contacted for help by victims injured in the horrific pile-up seen on the A249 Sheppey Crossing in Kent yesterday (September 5th) which involved around 130 vehicles, have backed calls for a comprehensive review of safety on the bridge.
Eight people were seriously injured and many others needed treatment in hospital, or at the scene, following the crash on Thursday morning, with Kent Police stating it was a miracle that no one was killed. Investigations into the pile-up are continuing.
Following the crash, organisations including the AA have raised concerns regarding the lack of lighting or matrix warning signs on the route.
Such calls have been welcomed by Irwin Mitchell’s serious injury lawyers, who have revealed their hopes that important safety lessons can be learned from the crash after receiving enquiries regarding the incident.
Colin Ettinger, Partner and expert in road traffic collision claims at Irwin Mitchell’s London office, said: “The catastrophic chain of events seen on the A249 this week has highlighted very serious safety concerns which clearly and desperately need to be addressed.
“All of the road users involved in the horrendous problems yesterday will be desperate for answers as to how this happened and what could be done to prevent it from being repeated.
“Something has clearly gone wrong somewhere when an incident of this magnitude has developed and, as well as monitoring the continuing investigations by Kent Police, we will be making our own enquiries into the events yesterday morning.
“We would also urge anyone else who was affected by these problems or may be able to help with providing information on it to please get in touch.”
