Another Example Of Impact Of Condition On Entertainment Industry
By Rob Dixon
Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher’s claims that he suffers from tinnitus are another important step towards creating a greater awareness around the condition and the impact it has on sufferers, according to a noise-related hearing loss expert.
The former Oasis singer told The Sun earlier this week revealed his years of touring and working in the music industry have led him to develop the condition, which causes a ringing in the ears.
His comments make him just the latest famous name from the entertainment industry to speak out on the issue, following in the footsteps of other famous names including his brother Noel and Coldplay star Chris Martin.
The latter last year also supported an Action on Hearing Loss campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of loud music and the need for both musicians, venue staff and fans to make use of earplugs.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist noise-related hearing loss specialists represent people who have developed tinnitus and similar conditions as result of exposure to high levels of noise at work.
Katie Bond, a solicitor and expert in such cases at Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office, said: “While many of our cases are related to exposure to loud noise in industrial settings, often as a result of employers failing to protect their staff, there are growing signs that the issue is becoming increasingly prominent in the entertainment world.
“The seriousness of tinnitus and other hearing loss conditions and the physical and psychological impact of such problems can often be underestimated.
“We welcome these latest comments and only hope that it encourages sufferers to not suffer in silence over the problems they face.”
