Hull Based Hospice To Release Doves At Annual Summer Memorial Service
A cote of Doves is to be released at an annual summer memorial service run by Hull-based Dove House Hospice, as families are invited to remember their loved ones lost to terminal illness.
The special service is a time for reflection featuring readings, poetry, music, refreshments and the symbolic release of doves with supporters invited to dedicate a dove in memory of a loved one by making a donation towards the hospice.
Law firm Irwin Mitchell, which helps many people living with life limiting illnesses, is providing support for the event which will take place on Saturday 17 August at 10.30am at the Dove House Hospice on Chamberlain Road, Hull.
Ian Toft, a specialist industrial illness lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, said: “We’re proud to sponsor Dove House’s annual memorial event. Irwin Mitchell has had a number of clients cared for at the hospice and we are massive supporters of the fantastic work they do.
“We’ve been involved in many fundraising activities for Dove House in the past, including a team running the Hull 10k, giant Easter egg competitions and ‘It’s a Knock Out’ challenges. I’m sure the release of Doves will provide a fitting tribute to those that have lost their lives.”
Dove House Hospice is a local charity which provides specialist palliative care to adults in Hull & the East Riding, who have life-limiting illnesses. The hospice has an Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy Unit providing pain and symptom control, respite care and end of life care.
They also offer a range of different therapies, have an education department and extend their services to patients’ families and carers. The hospice has a yearly running cost of £6.1 million and relies on donations and sponsorship to help fund the crucial work it carries out.
Katy Wood, fundraising co-ordinator at Dove House Hospice said: “We really do try to go the extra mile for patients and their families. From haircuts to weddings, it is the people, not the illness, who are the centre of everything we do. Every day we help parents, siblings, grandparents, sons and daughters at what can be one of the most difficult times in their lives. We could not continue to provide this excellent care without the support of businesses, individuals and the local community, including Irwin Mitchell.”
