HSE Informed Of Reported Blast Close To Train Line
An investigation is set to be launched following a major industrial incident at a Darlington industrial estate in which a 63-year-old man reportedly suffered head, arm and hand injuries.
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the suspected explosion, which occurred yesterday lunchtime (September 20th) at the town’s Cleveland Industrial Estate.
Staff at industrial units nearby were evacuated when a large fire started to spread, while trains on the nearby East Coast Main Line were delayed as a result of the incident.
The victim who has not been named is being treated at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist workplace injury team have vast experience representing victims seriously injured in major industrial accidents, as well as the families of those killed in such incidents. They also act for people hurt in gas explosions in residential areas.
David Urpeth, national head of workplace injuries at Irwin Mitchell, said: “Very little is still yet known about this incident but local businesses and residents will clearly be concerned about the problems and will want answers as to how it was caused.
“It is vital that authorities work quickly and thoroughly to gather as much information as possible in relation to this fire, with a view to tackling the many questions surrounding it.
“From our experience, we have seen how injuries at work can have a huge impact on victims, leaving them with long-term physical and psychological traumas problems from which they never fully recover.
“Health and safety must always be a priority in the workplace and it will be vital that lessons can be learned from this worrying blaze to prevent it from ever happening again.”
