Irwin Mitchell Bristol Sponsors St John Ambulance Awards

Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell’s Bristol office joined St John Ambulance to celebrate local Badger Setts and Cadets who have made a real difference to their community with a day at Brean Leisure Park and an awards ceremony to recognise the top members.

Anusheh Ahmadi, a Serious Injury expert in Bristol, attended the Youth Celebration Event in May which commended the amazing achievement of St John Ambulance (SJA) in running the Badgers for 25 years and the Cadets for 90 years.

Irwin Mitchell has a long standing relationship with SJA and played host to a first aid course at their office in One Castlepark for youth members earlier this year. Solicitors and cadets were taught how to help someone suffering a cardiac arrest using a training defibrillator - a piece of equipment used to shock the heart back into a normal rhythm. The law firm also sponsored the ‘dummy’ defibrillators required for this.

At the ceremony last month Anusheh presented the Irwin Mitchell sponsored awards which saw winners handed a personalised trophy. These included:
• Public Service Hours – Emily Stenner
• Badger Helper 2012 – Alice Stenner
• Outstanding Leader – Lynda Meers
• Most Adventurous Badger – Alice Doody
• County Events support – Lauren Connolly & Karl Doul
• Cadet Helper – Julie Bradley
• Leader Cadet – Adrienne Day
• Follow–me Badger 2012 – Rebecca Seaman & Caitlyn Le Cras
• Making a difference between a life lost and a life saved – Emily Stenner who stopped at a cardiac arrest and bravely assisted in CPR

The day included entry to Brean Leisure Park to enjoy the fair rides for all of the St Johns Ambulance youth members and Badgers, a balloon launch, party games, a presentation where those nominated received their awards, a buffet and a disco for all youth members, their parents and youth leaders.

Anusheh Ahmadi said: “It was really inspiring to meet all the young people who dedicate so much of their free time to learning the skills that make the difference between a life lost and a life saved in first aid. It was an absolute pleasure to support the event and help present the fun trophies to the winners.

“St John Ambulance is a fantastic charity and we’re proud to work with the leaders and cadets, supporting them with events and training.”

Badger Setts are for children aged 5-10 years old and they get to take part in lots of fun activities and learn all about the world around them and how to deal with emergency situations.

St John Ambulance Cadets are young people aged 10-17 who work hard all year long to develop their skills, build their self-confidence and self-esteem and volunteer in their communities to deliver first aid, either by training this to others, or by going out on first aid duties.

A St John Ambulance spokesperson said: “We have had loads of support from a number of different businesses. Irwin Mitchell has funded t-shirts, the awards for the presentation and the event photography.

“It is great for our youth team to have received so much support as so many of our young members and adults volunteer so much of their time for their communities and for St John Ambulance, so it’s nice to be able to give them something back, so we would like to thank our sponsors for giving us this opportunity to give something back to our youth members and volunteers.”
